Boreas Pass

Sunset flights in the remote high alpine.

Min Rating:

Summit County Hike n Fly

Amazing evening soaring site. It's a relatively short hike from the parking/ landing area to any of the launch areas. This is a very high alpine, so ideal wind is 5-8mph gusting to 10.

There's a story about a New Zealand pilot who launched in shorts and got sucked up to 20,000+ft...

There are three launches: the W-NW one is the nicest, but the SW launch and the one for either N or S wind work well too.

Landing is easiest right on the road where you park at the trailhead. It's a very low-traffic road early morning / late evening when we fly. It's a gravel road that runs N-S.

You can also land in the grass just uphill (east) of the parking area. There are stumps and rocks to watch out for, so the road is usually the best option.
