Rocky Mountain Hang Gliding & Paragliding Association

After dinner Joe Nance gave a presentation of the tow site up at Nunn that he is trying to acquire.  The site is huge, over 600 acres, and is on the market for a very good price.  If any of you were not at the banquet you can contact Joe for more information on the site search.

After the awards John Coyne showed some old 8mm movies from the early days of hangliding.  Thanks John, the movies were excellent; plenty of hippie type pilots and bikini clad groupie chicks digging the guys with their incredible flying machines.

Thanks to everyone for showing up and for bringing all that excellent food.

Break in at Yankee

Joe's hanger at Yankee was broken into last week and quite a bit of stuff was taken.  Including a full engine from the blue ultralight, an Ivo prop, his computer monitor, and a helmet/headeset/intercom set.   So far Joe has no idea who took the stuff.  Hopefully it will be recovered.

Winter Flying at Lookout

Lookout in Golden has been flown several times in the past few weeks.  The PG's soared as much as an hour on Wednesday the 13th.  And on Saturday the 17th there were quite a few PG sled rides.   Steve Ford also got a sledder in his new Lightspeed from the south launch a few weeks ago.  Airtime is to be had there, and not having a real job will help a lot in getting some of it.

Coyneism

Any pilot who says he's NEVER been scared in a hang glider is, I'm afraid, lying.

2001 Awards Banquet

Thanks to Jim Yocom, Tim Denton, Ron Gleason, and countless others for putting together the awards banquet at Ken Caryl last month.  It was an excellent evening with loads of food and plenty to drink.  Awards were given for cross-country flights, spectacular whacks; returning from injuries, etc. and for service to the sport.  Mark Windshimer was awarded a lovely wooden sculpture of a hanglider to recognize 25 years of involvement with hangliding in Colorado.  Congratulations Mark.  Mark was also voted the club's most valuable member; which if this was a strip club rather than a hangliding club would some award.
